Summer is the season when nature treats us to the tastiest and most fragrant tomatoes. Juicy tomatoes are at their peak right now, and this is the perfect time to make the most of their fresh flavour. Today’s recipe is inspired by traditional Bulgarian cuisine: simple, using just a few ingredients, yet rich in flavour and aroma.
The combination of tomatoes, eggs and cheese is well known and much loved in Bulgarian homes. Here, it is presented in a slightly different way: stuffed cherry tomatoes, which are beautiful, appetising and extremely easy to prepare. Just three main ingredients are all you need to create a light, balanced and filling dish, suitable for lunch, dinner or even as an original starter. And the recipe’s true Bulgarian character comes from that pinch of savory. It is this that imparts that familiar homely aroma, which takes us back to the flavours of our childhood. Savory pairs beautifully with tomatoes and cheese, transforming this seemingly simple recipe into a true culinary delight.
When it’s hot outside, we rarely feel like spending much time in the kitchen or eating heavy meals. That’s why this recipe is the perfect choice: it’s easy to make, features seasonal produce and is rich in protein and beneficial nutrients. As well as being delicious, it’s a brilliant way to bring more freshness and colour to your summer meals. Sometimes the best recipes don’t need a long list of ingredients. All you need is high-quality seasonal produce, a little fragrant savory and the desire to cook something homemade, delicious and with a Bulgarian flavour.
