Derja Hussein Kandilarov
Derya Hussain Kandilarov, RD, MSc, CertHE, DipHE, BSc, is a registered clinical dietitian (HCPC) with extensive clinical experience in both general and critical care in a hospital setting. She has in-depth expertise in medical nutrition and applies modern, evidence-based approaches to the management of a wide range of conditions.
Her professional interests focus on obesity and body composition management, type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes, metabolic and endocrine disorders, women's health, and prevention through nutrition in the general population. She is an active member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA) and participates in the international Practice-based Evidence in Nutrition (PEN) platform, ensuring her practice is in line with the most up-to-date clinical guidelines and evidence.
She completed her MSc in Nutrition and Clinical Dietetics at Robert Gordon University, Scotland. Her professional career has included working in a number of leading hospital settings in Glasgow, including Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH), one of the largest and most modern hospitals in Europe, where she gained significant experience in complex clinical case management.
As founder of DietitianMED, she developed an innovative platform aimed at integrating clinical practice with education. In her role as a clinical lecturer, she creates and leads specialized training programs and masterclasses for both patients and healthcare professionals internationally.

Her clinical experience includes working with patients with moderate to severe obesity, type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes, thyroid disease, metabolic syndrome, nonalcoholic and alcoholic steatosis of the liver, food intolerances and allergies, autoimmune conditions, and celiac disease. She is experienced in the nutritional management of patients in the pre- and post-operative period, as well as patients undergoing GLP-1 therapy.
Additionally, he has clinical experience in the administration and monitoring of enteral and parenteral nutrition in patients with complex neurological, oncological and surgical conditions requiring a multidisciplinary approach.
Her professional development includes a number of certifications and specialisations from leading organisations such as ESPEN (The European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism), EASO (European Association for the Study of Obesity) and BDA (British Dietetic Association), with a focus on nutritional therapies for obesity, bariatric medicine and clinical nutrition.
Derja Hussein Kandilarov adds to his professional profile an active commitment in the field of public health, with a focus on the prevention of chronic non-communicable diseases and increasing health literacy. Through the DietitianMED platform, media engagements, science-based content, and educational campaigns, she promotes sustainable eating patterns and informed choices among the general public. In this context, she also served as Chief Dietitian on the first season of the reality TV format „The Biggest Loser“ in Bulgaria, where she worked with participants with clinically significant obesity, applying a structured, multidisciplinary approach to weight reduction and metabolic health improvement. She integrates the principles of evidence-based nutrition into the public domain to reduce misinformation and help build long-term healthy habits at a population level.
