Pre-diabetes and high insulin levels: what you need to know before it becomes „official”

There is one rather uncomfortable statistical finding: a large proportion of people with prediabetes do not
know they have it. Not because they haven’t seen a doctor, but because the symptoms are mild,
are vague and can easily be attributed to „stress”, „fatigue” or „ageing”.
Drowsiness after eating. An irresistible craving for sweets in the afternoon. Weight that
accumulates around the waist despite my best efforts. Energy that comes in waves.
The body actually sends out signals. We just haven’t been taught to recognise them.

What happens in the body

Prediabetes and insulin resistance do not occur suddenly. They develop
slowly, sometimes years before blood sugar levels become abnormal. At the root of it is
a disrupted process: the cells respond less effectively to insulin, the pancreas
compensates by releasing more and more, until at some point the system starts to lose
balance.

The result is not just higher blood sugar. Chronic high insulin levels are associated with
accumulation of visceral fat, a higher risk of cardiovascular disease,
hormonal imbalance and fatty liver disease.

The good news is that, unlike many chronic conditions, prediabetes is a
one of the few conditions in which lifestyle changes really do make a difference
measurable and proven value. Not merely as a „nice extra”, but as a fundamental
a tool for reversing the trend.

Why information is usually not enough

There are countless articles, lists and tips on the internet on this subject. The problem isn’t
It is not the lack of information that is the problem, but rather its applicability.

„Eat more healthily” is useless advice without context. Which carbohydrates, in what
the quantity, the combination and the timing – it is precisely these details that make the difference between
random reading and real change.
